A statement from the central bargaining committee for CUPE’s Ontario School Boards Council of Unions (OSBCU) We are waiting for a response from the Council of Trustees’ Associations (CTA) and the Ford government and remain at the table willing and ready, as we have been for the last five months, to negotiate a collective agreement that responds to the needs of students, parents, and workers.
Still Fighting For Your Rights November 2, 2022
Your OSBCU Bargaining Committee remains at the bargaining table.
To be clear, at this time, the legislation that is on the floor of Queen’s Park is not yet law, your rights to job action remain.We will not give up your rights, even in the face of attacks on rights by this government.
We are actively negotiating with the parties - as soon as we have concrete information to share we will.
This strong arm tactic would deny education workers the ability to negotiate for good jobs, better wages, and improvements to the services students rely on every day. This chart provides a brief outline of what the government is threatening to impose and what it means for workers, parents, and students.
We welcome any opportunity for fulsome discussion that will move these negotiations forward. We will continue our practice of transparency and will update you following our meeting.
OSBCU 2022 Bargaining Update October 30, 2022
We have become aware of a statement from the minister being read on media outlets this morning. While we have not received a copy of this statement, representatives from the Ministry of Education have reached out to us to facilitate a meeting this afternoon with representatives from the Council of Trustees’ Associations, the Crown and ourselves.
We welcome any opportunity for fulsome discussion that will move these negotiations forward.
The mediator has concluded that the parties are too far apart and the mediation should be adjourned. He has requested that we reconvene on November 1, 2022 and will be in contact with us prior to us resuming the mediation.

CUPE OSBCU recieved the “No Board Report” October 17, 2022
This morning, CUPE OSBCU recieved the “No Board Report” from the Ministry of Labour.
With the receipt of the report, we now enter into the seventeen (17) calendar day waiting period before we would be in a legal strike position on November 3rd, 2022.
The School Board Collective Bargaining Act (SBCBA) requires that we provide a five (5) day notice prior to commencing any job action.
We have not yet received the "No Board Report", once we do receive it, a communication will be sent notifying workers that the 17 day waiting period has begun.
Moving to Mediation October 14 2022

We have agreed to enter into mediation with the Government & Council of Trustees Association when we return to the bargaining table on Monday. We have also been able to secure an additional date this session which will give us a three day block.
Government Forces Impasse October ,7 2022
This morning, rather than a written response to our reasonable proposals, the government & school boards asked us to make “dramatic & substantial changes” to our bargaining package.
As workers, you have been clear in what your expectations are of the bargaining committee - you need real gains.
In the absence of a serious proposal from the employer we will have reached an impasse in negotiations.
